Waiting is tough. I wish I could say that every time I pray, I do so calmly, expecting God’s answer with a tranquil heart. But that wouldn’t be truthful. Like many, I find myself wondering, “How much longer, Lord?” after I’ve prayed. I wait for answers, for open doors, for changes in my circumstances, just looking for some sign that God is at work. And sometimes… there’s just silence.
It’s in those quiet moments that my faith feels most real. Trusting God is easy when everything is unfolding perfectly, but what happens when days stretch into months? What do you do when you’ve repeated the same prayer so many times that you feel like you’re running out of words?
That kind of waiting can really weigh on your heart. I’ve gone through phases where all I wanted was for God to reveal the entire plan. Where am I headed? When will this change? Why does it feel like it’s taking forever?
I’ve come to realize that God doesn’t always lay out the whole roadmap for me. Often, He simply asks me to take the next step alongside Him. Maybe that’s what faith in the waiting really is.
It doesn’t mean I don’t get discouraged or question things. It doesn’t mean I never shed tears or feel lost. It simply means that, beneath all my doubts, I still hold on to the belief that God hasn’t forgotten me. Something is happening in those waiting moments, even if it’s not visible right now. Perhaps God is shifting my circumstances, or changing my heart, or getting me ready for something I’m not prepared for yet. Maybe He’s teaching me to trust Him, not because I can see what comes next, but because I know who He is.
That kind of faith is hard to come by. Some days, it feels bold and certain. Other days, it’s just a quiet whisper of, “Lord, help me trust You for another day.” And I believe God honors both of those expressions.
If you find yourself in a waiting season, know that it’s okay to admit the struggle. You don’t have to pretend it’s easy. Tell Him how tired you are. Share your disappointments. Let Him know when you’re confused about the silence.
And then, after you’ve opened your heart, simply say, “Lord, I still trust You.”
Maybe this waiting period isn’t just a gap between your prayers and their answers. Perhaps it’s an essential part of your story. It could be the time when your roots dig deeper, where your faith strengthens, where you learn that God is enough—even before you see the answer.
That’s real faith. And maybe that’s the honest hallelujah you need today.
